Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is located on a gorge overlooking the Save River and Gonarezhou National Park in South East Zimbabwe. It links with South Africa’s Kruger National park to the south and Mozambique to the east. The Lodge can be reached by car – it is approximately 5.5 hours drive from Harare. We can provide transfers if required. You can charter planes to our own airstrip (Mahenye ) 2 km from the Lodge. Please contact Handeyi Africa Adventures for further information. 

Located in Zimbabwe’s south east corner, Gonarezhou is Zimbabwe’s second largest national park and covers just over 5,000 square kilometers. Gonarezhou is one of Africa’s last remaining wildlife secrets. It provides the visitor with an unrivalled experience of tranquillity within which to explore; be that on foot, in a vehicle or from the luxury of a lodge or tented camp. It is possible to spend a week without seeing another vehicle even at iconic sites such
as the Chilojo cliffs or Tambahata Pan. A trip to Gonarezhou will take you through a continuum of ever changing ecosystems ranging from floodplain thickets, sandveld forests, one thousand year old baobab ridgelines and the Tembwehata Pan and wetlands. Those who visit this epic wilderness will discover it offers Zimbabwe’s richest biodiversity.
 

 ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN BOOK

GAME DRIVES: Experience life in the Park, enhanced by the expert insights of our Guides. When the river is high, we transport you across the Save into the Park by boat, where our safari vehicle awaits on the other side.
 

GAME WALKS: Walking in the National Park is a great sensory experience – it invites closer observation of the finer details of the wild: identifying tracks, finding insects, listening for bird calls, learning about survival in the bush and feeling more in harmony with your surroundings. All guests are escorted by a fully qualified professional Guide.
 

TAMBAHATA PAN WATCH: Spend a quiet and relaxing time at the pan for excellent bird and game viewing – good binoculars are essential.
 

MAHENYE VILLAGE VISIT: See the local Shangaan way of life and the benefits of the 

CAMPFIRE project.
 

SAVE BOAT CRUISES: Water levels permitting, enjoy a leisurely cruise down the enchanting Save river.
 

CHIVILILA FALLS Walk to the falls along a private track that we have cut along the Save River gorge to the upper view point where the Save river has eroded the basalt and tumbles into the gorge. This is an excellent place to see leopard at sunrise or sunset. The walk is approximately 2km in length and requires sensible closed footwear.
 

FISHING: Water levels permitting, the Lodge has a limited supply of tackle. We can provide up to date information and advice in relation to fishing within Gonarezhou National ark.

CHILOJO CLIFFS:A full day excursion through the National park to this iconic, beautiful place.
